John M. W. Moorlach ran unsuccessfully for Treasurer-Tax Collector in 1994 but would become a significant personality in Orange County because of predicting the then-largest municipal bankruptcy filing in United States history.  He would be appointed to replace the disgraced incumbent, serving in the position from 1995 to 2006.  He successfully ran for Orange County Supervisor, serving from 2006 to 2015, and the State Senate for the 37th District from 2015 to 2020. John has visited every county in California and photographed nearly all the official state historical landmarks.  He served as Vice President of the California Sesquicentennial Foundation and is a member of many historical societies.  He has been published in several history books and numerous newspapers and publications around the county, state, and nation.

Chris Epting has been writing about Orange County for more than 20 years. The author of more than a dozen books on the area, for 10 years he also wrote a popular weekly Los Angeles Times newspaper column that was also focused on Orange County. He created and hosted the popular local program “Hidden Huntington Beach” and has worked extensively to have several important historical markers placed in the county as well. Until recently he served on the Orange County Historic Commission, and he teaches local history classes and lectures on many local subjects from rock ‘n’ roll to baseball to pop culture, and more.

Executive Producers

Scott Hays co-founded OC World, a Golden-Mike award-winning nonprofit multi-media organization that broadcasts on KLCS PBS in Los Angeles to an estimated 15.5 million households from Santa Barbara to San Diego.  He co-produced the PBS SoCal public affairs program Inside OC with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Rick Reiff, produced-hosted the radio-cable show OC Caravan for KX 93.5 FM served as executive producer of short documentaries for several non-profit organizations. Scott has a Masters’ Degrees in English Literature and Communication, and he teaches part-time at southern California colleges, and over the course of his career, he has published roughly a dozen, mostly non-fiction books for major publishing companies such as Warner Books, Gotham, and Rodale Press.

Manuel N. Gómez, Ph.D., is a co-founder of OC World. He previously served as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at University of California, Irvine from 1995 to 2010. He began his work as a counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program, was a program officer with the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education in Washington D.C., and he served as Interim Vice President for Educational Partnerships in the University of California Office of the President. He also served as a member of the Children First, Paul Merage Foundation, on the Board of Trustees for the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the Board of Governors for the Orange County Community Foundation. Currently he is an Advisory Committee member of the UC Berkeley Institute for the Study of Higher Education.

Production Team

Ty Woodson is an award-winning television producer, director of photography, writer, and editor who has produced hundreds of hours of content for PBS. He produced the television shows Sustaining California which was broadcast nationwide and LAaRT which was broadcast regionally. The broadcast content he’s produced to date includes: five hour-long specials (three of which were distributed to all California PBS stations); a 60-minute documentary on Southern California visionary Henry Segerstrom; countless image spots, fillers, promos, PSAs, billboards, and other important interstitial material. Online content he’s created, directed, and produced includes numerous webisodes, PBS SoCaL Extras, and PBS SoCaL Community Champion.

Dan McKechnie is an Emmy-nominated editor and award-winning cinematographer. Dan began his professional career as a 6th grade teacher in Irvine, California, where he was honored with the Climate Creator of the Year award and nominated for the National Teacher of the Year award. He has created award-winning videos since 1981 and teaches many young video and film professionals throughout the country on editing and cinematography techniques, when not producing videos for OC World.
